The Importance of Medical Insurance

Recently my six months old baby was taken serously ill and had to be admitted in hospital. after examination, it was established that he required an operation. the procedure was carried out but what followed was the most traumatizing experience in my parenting life. in short he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit(ICU) for six days, had respiratory cardiac arrests twice and many other terrible things........ Since he had been admitted in a relatively expensive hospital, the medical bill kept on shooting up. Lucky for me I had taken up medical insurance and had contributed for only two months. Apart from clearing the huge medical bill, they visited and gave us a get well note that went a long way in raising our low spirits. The boy is quite ok now.
Thanks to the medical insurance cover, payment of the medical bill was not our principal concern and our energies were focussed on our sons wellness.
I would like to encourage the youth especially in Kenya that if you do not have any medical cover for yourself or your family (if you have any), serously consider getting one. At a time when several youth are trying hard to break even financially, things like medical bills can take your efforts several years back. You may not have been affected yet but you never know when it may come... if it does comes let it find you ready.
So come on Get your Insurance, it is really necessary. I had never thought it necessary until it rescued me.

Give from your heart

When you give from your heart to someone else that is in need, that is when LOVE really shows. When you give you may actually save a life.

What you have may not seem like much but to someone else it is more than enough. So what will you do when the future of a life depends on you?….. next time you are confronted by a face of desperation do not turn your back and walk away.

God says ‘when you’ve done it to the least you’ve done it unto me’…. So next time you give, give from your heart.

My MP has an Allergy for Intellectuals
Related to country: Kenya

The Kenyan government recently introduced a fund known as the constituency development fund - CDF (which is probably the best thing to happen to Kenyans in the 40+ years of independence….. only if managed properly). The fund is aimed at alleviating poverty by creating basic infrastructure to trigger development and initiating income generating activities. The only problem is that Members of Parliament have a big say on how the funds are used. This fund in my constituency like many other constituencies has an education component that aims at giving bursaries to needy students to facilitate their education.

I recently met with some university students from my area and they were complaining that by a directive from the area Member of Parliament, the committee managing the CDF fund had been instructed not to give bursaries to students pursuing university education.

This has really disturbed me; - one as a community we need more educated people for as the saying goes ‘if you think education is expensive try ignorance’, two we need more educated people to compete for national positions and finally, the MP must have been a beneficiary of such support to realise his ambitions in becoming a medical doctor.

My take on his actions is that he probably has an allergy for intellectuals…. He cannot stand them. The fewer they are in his constituency, the better for him
